WAZ

Nel novembre del 1934, la rivista americana R/9 annunciò la nascita di un nuovo award per incoraggiare la ricerca di contatti internazionali a lunga distanza. Il diploma veniva conseguito dai radioamatori che collegavano tutte le zone in cui il mondo era stato diviso dai redattori della rivista. Il premio fu chiamato WAZ (Worked All Zones).

Oggi, settantacinque anni più tardi, R / 9 non esiste più e il diploma viene gestito dalla rivista CQ, che ha iniziato a sponsorizzarlo dal 1945. È senza dubbio uno dei più importanti diplomi per dxers che siano mai stati istituiti. Sui 160m poi è sinonimo di una “vita spesa per la radio”, roba per gente seria…!

A chi piacciono i dettagli storici non può sfuggire che il WAZ è, per anzianità, il secondo award della storia dei radioamatori. Secondo solo al WAC (Worked All Continets) della IARU. Il DXCC è più giovane di ben 2 anni e venne istituito nel 1936!

Il Diploma CQ Worked All Zones (WAZ), in tutte le sue varianti, è rilasciato a tutti i radioamatori che presentino la prova di aver collegato tutte le 40 zone CQ. La prova consiste delle cartoline QSL che possono essere controllate da qualsiasi dei chechpoint o mandate direttamente all’ Award Manager del WAZ. Il programma WAZ è uno dei programmi di diplomi che ha la maggiore anzianità, essendo iniziato prima della seconda guerra mondiale. Il programma WAZ, anche se usa il concetto di “entità DX”, non si riferisce mai alla validità o meno dei paesi DXCC. Il WAZ è centrato sulla posizione geografica, che è ritenuta l’elemento di interesse più valido dal punto di vista del DX.

Regole generali

Tutti i QSO devono essere fatti da un radioamatore in possesso di una licenza valida e che operi da una stazione radioamatoriale, usando solamente i modi di emissione e le potenze permesse dai regolamenti del paese in cui opera. Collegamenti con stazioni commerciali, militari e altre non sono considerati validi per il diploma.

Tutti i QSO devono essere fatti nell’ambito delle frequenze autorizzate nei rispettivi paesi da cui si opera. Qualsiasi richiesta di diploma che risultasse a fronte di collegamenti fatti al di fuori dei limiti di licenza locale sarà rifiutata.

Tutti i collegamenti devono essere fatti entro i confini del proprio paese DXCC. Sono validi i qso fatti dallo stesso operatore usando nominativi diversi. In questo caso può essere richiesto di presentare prova della autorizzazione ad usare nominativi diversi.

Le mappe delle zone del CQ WAZ ed il corrispondente elenco delle zone sono i documenti ufficiali usati per determinare la zona nella quale sono collocate le diverse stazioni radio.

Coloro che possono presentare prova dei contatti con le 40 zone del mondo sugli 80, 40, 20, 15 e 10 metri, possono richiedere il diploma 5Bande WAZ. Bisogna prima aver ottenuto un WAZ “normale” su una qualsiasi banda in un qualsiasi modo, ed è necessario che i dati di questo, tipo, numero e data, sia indicato sulla richiesta del 5 bande. Il primo livello del 5 Bande WAZ viene rilasciato a 150 zone, ottenute con qualsiasi combinazione delle 5 bande indicate sopra. Sarà rilasciato un diploma che indicherà il numero iniziale di zone confermate. Successivamente sono possibili avanzamenti, ciascuno di 10 ulteriori zone, che prevedono la relativa richiesta con il pagamento dell’importo dovuto. Al raggiungimento delle 200 zone verrà rilasciato uno sticker da inserire nel diploma rilasciato in precedenza. Non sono previsti altri diplomi o endorsement. E’ prevista una placca per il raggiungimento dei 200 paesi, con il pagamento di quanto più avanti indicato. Il 5 Band WAZ è previsto solamente nel modo misto, non è disponibile per nessun modo singolo. I relativi qso devono aver avuto luogo a partire dal 1 gennaio 1979. Dal 1 giugno 2000 è consentito il field checking del 5 Band WAZ, per le richieste fino a 190 zone e non più. Se intendete fare la prima richiesta del 5 Band WAZ per un numero di zone maggiore di 190, dovete farlo direttamente al WAZ Manager negli USA. E’ previsto l’uso del modulo 1479 o sua riproduzione. E’ richiesto l’uso di un modulo diverso per ciascuna banda o ciascun diploma richiesto.

Zone 1. Northwestern Zone of North America: KL (Alaska), VY1 Yukon, VE8 the Northwest and VY0 Nunavut Territories west of 102 degrees (Includes the islands of Victoria, Banks, Melville, and Prince Patrick).

Zone 2. Northeastern Zone of North America: VO2 (Labrador), the portion of VE2 Quebec north of the 50th parallel, and Nunavut Territories east of 102 degrees (Includes the islands of King Christian, King William. Prince of Wales, Somerset, Bathurst, Devon, Ellesmere, Baffin and the Melville and Boothia Peninsulas, excluding Akimiski Island, Bear Islands and East Pen Island in Hudson Bay).

Zone 3. Western Zone of North America: VE7 (British Columbia), W6, and the W7 states of Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

Zone 4. Central Zone of North America: VE3 (Ontario), VE4 (Manitoba), VE5 (Saskatchewan), VE6 (Alberta), VY0 Akimiski Island, and Bear Islands, and Fox Island and East Pen Island in Hudson Bay. The W7 states of Montana and Wyoming, W0, W9, W8 (except West Virginia), W5, and the W4 states of Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Zone 5. Eastern Zone of North America: 4U1UN, CY9 (St. Paul Is.), CY0 (Sable Is.), FP (St. Pierre & Miquelon), VE1 (Nova Scotia) and VE9 (New Brunswick), VY2 (Prince Edward Is.), VO1 (Newfoundland) and the portion of VE2 Quebec south of the 50th parallel. VP9 (Bermuda), W1, W2, W3 and the W4 states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and the W8 state of West Virginia.

Zone 6. Southern Zone of North America: XE (Mexico), XF4 (Revilla Gigedo).
